Nintendo Switch Games: Console Might Get a New 'Super Smash Bros.' Release

"Super Smash Bros." is possibly coming to Nintendo Switch.

According to reports, in one of the many interviews with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the video game company's executive clearly dropped a major hint that one of their most successful franchises is most likely making its way to the Nintendo Switch.

In a Facebook live interview, Fils-Aime reportedly said (via GameSpot), "Smash is obviously one of our best-selling franchises. What we say is that the philosophy that Nintendo has from a development standpoint is that for every platform, we want to have at least one [each] of our classic franchises."

"Super Smash Bros." is originally a 1999 release for the Nintendo 64 system. The game became famous for introducing a crossover fighting game that merges several different game franchises developed by Nintendo. Some of the characters included in the game are Mario of "Super Mario," Fox McCloud from "Star Fox," Link from the "Zelda" franchise, Kirby from the game with the same name, Samus Aran from the 1986 game "Metroid," and Pikachu from "Pokémon."

The game originally had 12 playable characters but the list was expanded to 58 characters when the title was reintroduced to the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U. Through the years, every time the game gets re-released, it is met with positive feedback especially for its multiplayer mode.

Apart from the Nintendo 64, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U versions, Nintendo released the "Super Smash Bros. Melee" in 2001 and the "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" in 2008. So it is safe to say that the Japanese video game company has pretty much kept the company alive through the years and releasing it on the Nintendo Switch is not quite a surprise.

"There's gonna be one great Super Mario experience, there's gonna be great Zelda experience, so you can expect, you can anticipate at some point in the future, who knows when, that all of our franchises will be addressed. We know that the fans love these games, love this content, so stay tuned," Fils-Aime teased about the future of the franchise in Nintendo Switch.

The hybrid portable and on-dock console, the Nintendo Switch, was just released on March 3 for $299.99.
