'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 Cast News: British Actor to Play King Arthur

Earlier last week, it was reported that the upcoming season 5 of ABC's hit fantasy TV drama series "Once Upon A Time" will be introducing a handful of Camelot characters like King Arthur, Merlin and Guinevere.

This development brings back Sinqua Walls' Lancelot into the plot line. The latter was introduced back in Season 2 in a flashback. It was further found out that he was disgraced by his King for falling in love with the wrong woman, likely Guinevere.

He was killed by Cora (Barbara Hershey) who takes on his identity during her escape, together with Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Emma (Jennifer Morrison), out from the Enchanted Forest.

A new casting report from Entertainment Weekly said this week that British actor Liam Garrigan has signed on to portray King Arthur.

The actor, whose screen credits include "24: Live Another Day," "Strike Back" and in Starz's "The Pillars of the Earth," will debut as the Round Table character during the premiere of Season 5 and will recur thereafter.

A report over at TV Line provided more details for the forthcoming character. He was described as a "good and just ruler" who, beneath it all, "is a master manipulator who can carry a grudge to the grave, and maybe beyond."

Just like in the popular lore, King Arthur harbors an "eternal burning love" for the yet-to-be-cast Guinevere. His devotion however often leads him to be a "bit controlling."

Aside from Guinevere, Once is also in the lookout for an actor to cast as Merlin.

"Once Upon a Time" Season 5 is slated to premiere on Sept. 27 on ABC.
