Opportunity for Tim Tebow as Analyst for Fox or ESPN?

May 6, 2013|12:26 pm

Former Denver Broncos and NY Jets quarterback Tim Tebow might be in line for an analyst career if he can't find a team to play for next season, some reports have suggested.

The popular Christian football player received disappointing news last week when the Jets decided to release him from his contract, after he struggled for appearances last season. With his prospects of staying in the NFL not looking too big right now, NY Daily News suggested that Fox Sports One and ESPN will move in to offer the 25-year-old star a role as an analyst.

"There is no bigger name on the current Fox Sports roster, no bigger new name it could bring to FS1, than Tim Tebow," NY Daily News wrote. "Fox's college football studio show now consists of Erin Andrews, Eddie George and Joey Harrington. Throw Tebow into the mix and the buzz becomes huge, the sizzle electric. Tebow's loyal flock of eyeballs would follow him, significantly increasing the ratings of a show rarely discussed."

ESPN would also be likely to go after Tebow, who despite his difficult season retains a large fan base among religious NFL fans. His frequent references and praises of God during his time at the Broncos elevated him to the top of sports pop culture and he emerged as one of the brightest young prospects two seasons ago.

The quarterback has kept a positive attitude and said he is still trusting in God following his release. He posted a biblical passage on his social media websites: "Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

The NY Daily News article notes that Tebow would clearly prefer to find a team to play for next season, but an analyst position might be the next best thing as it would keep him near the game that he loves, and potentially allow him to keep his endorsement deals as he would maintain his high public profile.

"A presence as a TV analyst could reenergize his marketability," the article notes. It also would not spell the end of his football career, and the young star would be free to come back as a player should an opportunity open up.
