'Orange is the New Black' News: Show Renewed for Season 4

It is official – the hit comedy series "Orange is the New Black" is returning for a fourth season. Netflix made the announcement recently, even before Season 3 is set to premiere on June 12.

Netflix, a subscription only streaming service, is banking on the success of the series which is an original series of the network. In 2014, it received nominations from the Primetime Emmys. It likewise won the awards from the Peabodys and People's Choice for Favorite Streaming Series.

According to a report in Cinema Blend, this recent announcement shows that Netflix does not follow a predictable pattern in the renewal of its shows or even the announcement of new ones. It is not yet known how many episodes the next season will have. The report, however, predicted that the new season will most likely premiere in the summer of 2016.

While the storyline for season 4 is still up in the air, the report says that it will be as interesting as the show's season 3.

Season 3 will see the return of characters such as that of Alex Vause and the disappearance of some such as Larry Bloom (Piper's ex-fiance), correction officers Natalie "Fig the Embezzler" Figueroa and George "Pornstache" Mendez. Alex Vause returns as a regular character all throughout the season, indicating that her relationship with Piper may be one of the central themes this season.

New cast members will be coming in as well. Mary Steenburgen of "Justified" is said to play George Mendez's mother. Mike Birbiglia of "The Fault in Our Stars," and Blair Brown of "Fringe" have signed on but the show's creator is mum about what characters they will play.

Another newcomer is 28-year-old Australian actress Ruby Rose as a new inmate Stella Carlin, "whose sarcastic sense of humor and captivating looks quick draw the attention of some of Litchfield's inmates."
