OS X Mountain Lion Download Available for $20 in Online Store

The OS X Mountain Lion and Lion downloads are now available through Apple's online store.

The company is now offering redemption codes at its online store for both operating systems to cater to users of older Macs who cannot upgrade to the latest OS X Mavericks.

Both of those software updates are no longer available for purchase directly through the Mac App Store. They can be found in the company's online store for $19.99 each. Once the user purchases the app, they will receive a content code that can be redeemed inside the Mac App Store.

Mountain Lion was taken out of the app store earlier this week and Lion had to be purchased via a phone call to Apple up until now.

The OS X Mavericks download became available as a free download earlier this week.

The company announced its plans for the software at its media event which took place earlier this afternoon.

OS X Mavericks will be compatible with iMac and MacBook Pros from 2007 or later, 2008 MacBook Air, MacBook, and Mac Pro or later, and the 2009 Mac mini or later.

Apple designed OS X Mavericks similar to iOS 7 as both will feature close to the same appearance. iOS 7 rolled out to mobile device users last month.

The company first introduced its new computer software at its World Wide Developers Conference back in June. It includes over 200 new features such as iBooks, improved multiple display support, iCloud Keychain, new Finder features, Maps, quick reply and lock screen notifications, auto-updating apps, and many other enhancements to improve battery life and performance.

Apple's last major update for its computers rolled out around this same time last year with OS X Mountain Lion. That version brought some of iOS 6's best features to the computers.
