OS X Yosemite Features and Design Revealed

The OS X Yosemite is Apple's newest operating system for the Macintosh computer. It's release was announced alongside the iPhone 6 unveiling last month and the iPad Air 2 unveiling one week ago. Some of the most prominent features to hit the operating system are its redesigned interface and its continuity features among others.

The Yosemite's interface is completely different from the previous OS, the OS X Maverick but at the same time is familiar to long time Mac users. For Yosemite, it's been made to look flat giving it a simpler profile as well as giving it that fresh new look. Fonts and window options have also been given a facelift. Transparency now affects Finder windows as well instead of just the Finder Menu bar up top.

Continuity is one of the better features included with Yosemite. The feature allows users to sync their mobile Apple devices to the Mac like the iPhone or the iPad. Once synced, users can now be able to make calls as well as take them on the Macintosh itself, without having to take out the iPhone.

The same applies to SMS where users are able to receive texts, which will pop up on the Macintosh's Notifications bar, and reply to them as well. Editing a document, continuing from a mobile's web progress, even activating the iPhone's hotspot can be done on the Mac.

The redesign not only affected the Finder menu and windows, the apps have also been given a graphic upgrade. Apps, like iTunes and Garageband, have been given the same redesign treatment as the Finder windows to make everything feel seamless.

The OS X Yosemite is available for download at the Apple App Store or on their website and is free. Make sure however that your computer meets the minimum system requirements, as older Mac units might struggle with the new OS.
