Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts steps in to give an explanation on why the show will be returning at a much later date. He took to Twitter to calm fans down.

"This is the biggest season yet. Greatness takes time," he tweeted, hot on the heels of the announcement of the premiere date of "Outlander" season 3.

Much of the disappointment comes from the expectations of fans that the "droughtlander" will be shorter this time around, a statement that Roberts made last year. He clarified that the quote was simply "taken out of context and clipped."

"I said 'since we got an early pick up ... droughtlander wouldn't be as long," he went on to explain. In another tweet, he reiterated that he was misquoted. "So ... it wasn't technically my quote," he emphasized.

Roberts also reminded fans that he is not involved with the talks on the production dates or premieres "because that is all Starz," which is why he does not talk or post about the "Outlander" season 3 premiere.

Despite this, Roberts know many are disappointed "Outlander" season 3 is still several months away. Fans imagined that it will be here as early as April, the same month the previous seasons premiered.

"I'm sure there is universal disappointment, but it takes a lot to move an entire production from the top of the world to the bottom," he explained.

Roberts expressed gratitude to those who remain understanding and patient of the work that needs to be done for the new season.

Filming for "Outlander" season 3 is still well underway. With a longer wait in front of fans, they can expect the new season to be amazing and worth the wait.

"Outlander" season 3 will bring in new characters and new versions of familiar faces already seen in the series. It will also feature one of the beloved scenes from the "Outlander" books by Diana Gabaldon so there is a lot riding on this new season being great.
