Paris Hilton Responds to Nick Carter: 'I'm Glad He Got Help for His Problems'

Paris Hilton has issued a response to Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter's claim that she was a bad influence on him when they were together. Carter has gone public with his story of addiction in his new memoir, "Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It."

"Paris was the worst person in the world for me to hook up with," Carter wrote in his book. He later told Access Hollywood that their relationship "was what it was. I was with someone who wasn't good for me at the time. I might not have been good for her at the time."

"We had the partying in common," Carter added. "It just is what it is. That's life. You go through, you have exes and you have past situations. But I don't fault her for anything."

The two dated in 2004 but went their separate ways not long after. Carter has since rebuilt his music career with the Backstreet Boys, even going on tour with an older boy band, New Kids on the Block. Hilton, meanwhile, has continued building her own empire, which is approximately worth $100 million.

"I don't believe I was a negative influence on Nick," Hilton told Access Hollywood. "We dated for a very short period of time almost 10 years ago and when we met he was already a successful pop star. I'm pretty sure that was the only thing influencing him at the time. I'm glad he got help for his problems and wish him all the best."

Carter decided to tell his story of drug and alcohol addiction in order to provide inspiration for others who may be struggling. He received treatment for his addictions and has been clean for several years. Carter is currently touring with the book, conducting interviews and holding book signings for fans.

"Nick leaves nothing to the imagination and offers true and heartfelt advice to help readers overcome obstacles in their own lives," a statement on Carter's website states.
