Paul George Injury News Update: Guard's Return Still Uncertain Despite Rumors of Season Debut This Week

In the past two seasons, Paul George has led Indiana in points, paving the way for consecutive second round appearances. While the Miami Heat outpaced the Pacers for two straight years, at least Indiana is in the right direction. Its tight defense is among the best in the NBA during those two seasons. Unfortunately, Indiana's quest to return to the Eastern Conference Finals was cut short after George suffered a gruesome broken bone injury during a practice game for Team USA.

Then, no one thought people would be talking about George's return in less than a year.

But here we are, hearing on rumors throughout the NBA. Previous reports last week revealed that the Pacers management were allegedly planning to play George, but decided against it.

This week could be the first time he will play this season.

Unfortunately, all the excitement has been put on a halt by none other than Hall of Famer and Indiana president for basketball operations Larry Bird.

"Just because he's cleared to play doesn't mean he's in shape to play. And I don't want Paul to go out there until he feels comfortable with his conditioning and the way he's practicing. I'd like to see him do a little bit better," the NBA legend said.

In the report, George was even surprised that several report showed up suggesting that he would return soon, even before the season ends.

Without George as a go-to guy for Indiana, and with most players tired and exhausted after a long grind this season, another playoff spot seems unlikely for the Pacers this season.

However, if ever they turn things around in their last remaining games, and hope their rivals for the final playoff spot losses, they can still end up with the eighth or even seventh spot.
