Thirty thousand Pentecostals flooded into Denver this past week for the spirit-filled 51st Assemblies of God General Council, which began yesterday night with an opening rally.

General Superintendent Thomas E. Trask, the head of the 3-million-member denomination, keynoted this evening’s service with a focus on the Council’s theme – People of the Spirit – which recognizes the Fellowship’s diversity and common bond in the Holy Spirit.

A/G is the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world with 53-million members; most of those members are in developing countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Prior to Trask's address, combined choirs from Missouri performed for the crowd. Choir members from the Central Assembly of God from Springfield, the Northland Cathedral from Kansas City.

Throughout the week, delegates will partake in family activities, art contests, and worship concerts -- all the while taking care of some business matters.

This year, there are fifteen resolutions that will be placed before the delegates, including several that recognize some A/G leaders as “General Presbyters” and some regarding the reconfiguration of the church’s Districts. One of the resolutions also involves the credentialing of divorced and remarried persons – it asks delegates to affirm that divorcees with living spouses are not fit to serve as clergy, unless the separation came before the ordination.

The 15 resolutions, which can be found in the Resolution Booklet published online at www.ag.org, are the: Credentialing Of Divorced And Remarried Persons, Honorary General Presbyter—Samuel P. Molina, Honorary General Presbyter—L. Jack Moore, Commitment To World Evangelism, Humanity Of The Lord Jesus Christ, Second Korean District Council, Dissolution Of Portuguese District Council, Ministerial Support, National Placement Service, Voluntary Cooperative Fellowship, Mandatory Screening Of Ministerial Applicants, Ministries Of Compassion For Human Need, Missionary Requirement, Duties Of The General Treasurer, and Division Of The Treasury.
