'Percy Jackson 3' Rumors: Will It Be A Film or TV Series?

Since "Percy Jackson 1 and 2" did the victory march at the box office in 2010 and 2013, respectively, fans have always hoped to see another installment of the fantasy-adventure film series. Back in 2014, actor Logan Lerman said that a third "Percy Jackson" movie was possible. Since then, however, there has been no concrete news on whether "Percy Jackson 3" is still going to happen.

Lerman stated in an interview sometime in 2014 that a third installment could still go ahead.

"If we want to make a third one I have to do it, I'm contractually obligated to three movies. I love those movies, they're a lot of fun to make," he said.

However, when "Noah" was released later in the same year, Lerman hinted in a separate interview that he didn't know whether it would happen or not because he hadn't heard anything about a third film. "Unless they call me I think it's unlikely," he said.

Since the wait has already been quite long for "Percy Jackson" fans, some have given up hope for a third installment. Recently, however, there has been speculation that The CW might be planning to adapt the fantasy-adventure franchise into a TV series instead of a movie.

Such rumors began to surface following reports that in a 10-year contract deal, The CW would be allocating a budget of $12 million for the first season of the "Percy Jackson" TV series.

While that sounds interesting to fans, the catch is that the titular character will reportedly no longer be portrayed by Lerman. Rumor has it that the network wants a younger actor to play the character since the story will begin from the first book.

Speculation that a "Percy Jackson" TV series is coming instead of a third film became stronger when the author of the original books, Rick Riordan, allegedly expressed his desire to pen the script for the TV adaptation because he wants to make sure that the series will remain as faithful as possible to the original books.

The CW has yet to confirm the news. Until then, fans should treat unofficial updates regarding the next "Percy Jackson" project as mere speculation.
