'Persona 5' Release Date, Trailer: New Teaser Shows the Velvet Room's Gameplay Mechanics

Atlus' upcoming role-playing video game "Persona 5" has been delayed several times already, but it seems that the game is finally pushing through with this year's release as a new trailer shows fans a familiar character - Igor, the Velvet Room's proprietor.

This is already the second major trailer of the game, with the first one focusing on the game's palaces and dungeons.

The trailer also featured "Persona 5's" soundtracks and follows teens Caroline and Justin - new Velvet Room assistants - who introduce the basic gameplay mechanics alongside Igor.

The game focuses on a group of young people who live a double life - they are high school students or young part-time workers by day, but they also live a fantasy-action life through a chosen persona from the Velvet Room that makes them masked vigilantes. They are collectively known as "Phantom Thieves of Hearts."

Their other-worldly powers come from these personas, which, as described by Atlus, are "the Jungian concept of the 'self.'"

"Persona 5" was first announced in 2013, and the game was originally intended for a 2015 release. However, it has since been delayed a couple of times.

After the supposed 2015 release, the developers announced that the game would be pushed again towards a September 2016 release due to new infusions of the game's storyline, which involves romantic ties between the young characters.

The game was indeed released on September 2016 but only in Japan since the developers wanted to make sure that the dual audio and language option is up to standards before releasing it worldwide.

An English-dubbed version is now slated for an April 4 release. The game is technically the sixth installment in the whole "Persona" series and a part of the larger "Megami Tensei" franchise.

"Persona 5" will only be available for PlayStation 3 and 4 upon release. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the game is not coming to Nintendo Switch nor to the PC.
