Phil Mickelson Wife, Caddie and Peers Respond to British Open Win

In a come-from-behind, underdog win, Phil Mickelson birded four of his last six shots and won the British Open this weekend. His wife, caddie, and peers respond to Mickelson's unexpected win.

His caddie called the last round of the British Open the "best round of [Mickelson's] life," according to ESPN.

"You're with a guy for all that time and it's pretty cool when you see him play the best round of his career in the last round of the British Open to win. He played the best round of golf I've ever seen him play," Mickelson's longtime caddie Jim Mackay said.

Mickelson credited his caddie as part of the win.

"The whole day [Caddie Jim Mackay] and I stayed in each shot trying to give ourselves the best chance possible. You need luck but you have to have the right bounces. When I made those putts on 13 and 14 that was amazing. You have to make those putts," the golfer told Yahoo.

Mickelson's wife Amy was very proud of her champion husband.

"He was just so calm and confident. He's been relaxed all week," she said, according to ESPN. Mickelson's wife and children were in attendance and watched him take the British Open.

Phil's peers were also respectful of his underdog win. Lee Westwood commented on Mickelson's win.

"I said in the press center last night, sometimes you play well and somebody plays a bit better, and sometimes you play poorly, I didn't really do either today and Phil (Mickelson) obviously played well. He shot the round of the day ... and birdied four out of six. That's a pretty special finish in a major championship," Westwood told Golf Digest.
