Phillip Phillips Kidney Surgery Threatens 'Idol' Singer's Voice? (VIDEO)

While many people might say that they would risk their lives to make their dreams come true, it appears that "American Idol's" Phillip Phillips has done just that, and could be facing dire consequences.

Phillips previously admitted to having kidney problems on "American Idol," the rising star performed on stage only days after undergoing kidney stone surgery, but it appears that his health has only gotten worse. The hometown visits allowed Phillips' family doctor to get a better look at the situation, and according to TMZ his feedback was not positive.

"Multiple "Idol" sources tell us ... when Phillip went back home to Georgia last Saturday ... his family doctor spent almost the entire stay by his side and was alarmed by what he saw -- Phillip wasn't eating and looked horrible," TMZ reported.

Despite having surgery mid-season, the site also reported that Phillips only received a temporary fix and further surgery would be required in order for him to get better.

"Phillip suffers from severe kidney problems and at the beginning of the competition it got so bad he had a stent put in as a temporary fix until he could have surgery," TMZ reported. "But the condition has worsened and Phillip's doc told him he needed surgery now. Phillip said he was not going to drop out of the show so the doctor told him he ABSOLUTELY had to go under the knife immediately after the finale."

The condition may have also had an impact on Phillips' performance quality and even voice according to TMZ which could explain why the singer began with such a strong start and then appeared to go through a slump.

Despite the set backs however, Phillips' latest performance of Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight," which apparently Phillips' begged not to sing because it was one of the few Seger songs he didn't know, was a hit. Neither condition nor unfamiliarity stopped the rising star from becoming one of the top two finalists going in to "American Idol" next week.
