Pippen Fight: ex-NBA All-Star Sends Man to the Hospital

Scottie Pippen's fight outside a Malibu, Calif. restaurant ended up sending a man to the hospital. The ex-Bulls NBA player and All-Star defender has not yet commented on the incident, and left before authorities arrived and could question him.

Pippen's fight with the unidentified man began and the Nobu Malibu restaurant on the Pacific Coast Highway around 6:30 p.m., according to The Associated Press. The 47-year-old basketball legend was in the parking lot by the valet stand when he and the man began arguing.

The argument turned into a fight, witnesses would later tell police.

"That argument led to an altercation," said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office. "Our detectives are investigating this right now."

Although it is not yet clear what the argument was pertaining to or why the incident escalated to fisticuffs, what was apparent was the result: Pippen, who is 6'8" and at least 200 pounds, sent the other man to the hospital.

The ambulance arrived to take the man to the hospital, and police also showed up at the restaurant. Pippen was nowhere to be found by the time authorities arrived, however.

The man's condition and identity are still unknown. Restaurant employees reportedly did not see the incident, and were unable to assist police. Charges could be filed, though.

"Charges could follow, we don't know," Whitemore told AP. "We have to investigate and check with all the witnesses and find out exactly what happened."

Pippen currently supports the Chicago Bulls as a special advisor to the team president and chief operating officer. The NBA organization had no comment on the incident.
