A passenger plane has reportedly crashed into a building in Lagos, Nigeria in what immediately appears to have been a tragic accident. All 150 passengers on board are thought to have been killed and it is likely further casualties will be reported from the ground where the Dana Air plane went down.
The Dana Air Flight was heading from Lagos to Abuja when it smashed into a building in a neighborhood just outside the airport, a federal emergency management official has reported.
Emergency personnel have rushed to the scene and are in attendance.
Eye witnesses from the nearby neighborhood have described seeing the plane crash come down low before slamming into a building and bursting into flames.
It is not yet known what caused the crash; the weather does not appear to be an element in the tragedy as it was reportedly clear and sunny at the time of the incident in Nigeria's main city of Lagos. Nothing to suggest a terrorist attack has been reported at the time of press.
Nigeria does not have an air safety record to be particularly proud of despite improvements taking place in recent years since numerous air tragedies occurred in 2005.
