'Pokemon Go' News, Developments and Updates: Legendary Pokemon Articuno Caught in Ohio? [DETAILS]

Legendary Pokemon Articuno Is Said to Have Been Spotted and Captured

Articuno is apparently the first legendary Pokemon in "Pokemon Go" to be captured by anyone playing the AR game.

One of the legendary birds, Articuno, was reportedly captured by a "Pokemon Go" player in Ohio. It was noted that Articuno was gifted to the gamer in question despite several widely believed rumors that legendaries or rare Pokemon will be reserved for special Nintendo and "Pokemon Go" events.

A thread posted on Reddit provides photo and video evidence that Articuno indeed exists on "Pokemon Go" and has been captured. According to the New York Daily News, Articuno was apparently captured by a "Pokemon Go" trainer in Ohio named Kaitlin Covey. She posted the Articuno video online and it was met with mixed reactions with some believing it was true and some saying it was a hoax.

Covey wrote on the forum that Articuno was given to her directly by "Pokemon Go" developer Niantic Labs. She adds that she had no idea why they gave her the legendary Pokemon but it may have something to do with her e-mailing the company since the first day of the release of "Pokemon Go." Niantic apparently e-mailed Covey back and said they were gifting her with the legendary bird and when Covey checked, it was on her Pokedex.

Proof of Legendary Articuno in 'Pokemon GO'

Techno Buffalo points out that Covey has posted several proofs that the Articuno in their "Pokemon Go" app is indeed a real deal. They have posted a video and screen shots to debunk claims that their legendary bird was edited or digitally added in and loaded it back in the game.

A report posted on Geek states that Covey is not the only one that has Articuno. They did not say how many "Pokemon Go" players have the legendary bird but they speculated that it had to be several. However, the other known player who had Articuno was on Team Instinct which is baffling because Articuno spearheads Team Mystic.

Others say that this shouldn't be possible on "Pokemon Go" but Niantic did not confirm, deny, or specify that each time only gets to have one legendary bird. If based on fan rumors, obtaining a legendary bird other than your own team's can be done via trading. However, this feature has not come to "Pokemon Go" yet.
