'Pokémon Go' Tips and Guide: Shiny Pokémon Worth Tracking Down?

Learn more about how Shiny Pokémon differ from their not quite as rare counterparts inside 'Pokémon Go'

There's a new event going on inside "Pokémon Go" right now, but the bit of news that appears to be garnering more attention at this moment is the discovery of Shiny Pokémon.

Over on the r/PokemonGo Subreddit, player "fabogon" shared an image that appears to show a Shiny Magikarp. The color of the Shiny Magikarp is noticeably different from its ordinary variant, with golden skin taking the place of the frequently seen orange body.

Players have unsurprisingly expressed plenty of excitement over this development, and only serving to further elevate that is the added discovery of the Shiny Gyarados.

Now, given how thrilled some players are by the Shiny Pokémon spottings, many of them will likely be walking around a lot over the next few days, trying to find and capture their own Shiny creatures. But are these new additions really worth hunting?

In a recent article, Pokémon Go Hub reported that Shiny Pokémon can apparently be difficult to spot since they will show up on the map similar to how ordinary Pokémon are represented, which means that it can take a lot of time to simply find one of these rare creatures.

It also looks as though the Shiny Pokémon, or at least the ones that have been caught thus far, are not significantly stronger than their ordinary counterparts, so players who go after them should not expect them to be more useful in battles.

Still, if players think that these Shiny creatures are still worth hunting if only for their rarity and eye-catching colors, then now may be the best time to do so.

The currently live "Water Festival" event has hiked up the encounter rates for different water-type Pokémon, including Magikarps, so players who are determined to catch some Shiny Pokémon may be best served to do so now.

More details about the Shiny Pokémon inside "Pokémon Go" should be made available soon.
