"The synopsis of the interview mentions an unprecedented game whose development started this summer. The game is said to change Pikachu, and Ishihara is worried about how the change will affect Pikachu's popularity," wrote a user who translated the comments on the forum. "Japanese fans are speculating that said change may be Mega Pikachu. This is certainly a possibility, even though Mega Evolution is generally reserved for fully evolved Pokémon. It is also possible that the game in question will be compatible with XY, and thus Pikachu's change could be carried over to these games."

The Mega Evolution for Pikachu would be a bit strange because all of the known Mega Evolutions thus far have occurred in a characters final form. Pikachu's final form is Raichu, making the change uncharacteristic of the principles of the game. Then again, it is everyone's favorite, so anything is possible in the realm of Pikachu.

Other classic fan favorite characters from the series are getting Mega Evolutions as well.

Original Red and Blue version starters, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur will be getting Mega Evolutions once they reach their final forms of Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur, respectively.

Other major news from the game concerned the 3DS apps for Poke Transporter and the Pokemon Bank, which will allow users to store up to 3,000 Pokemon in an online cloud. It was also allow players to transport their Pokemon from the last generation's games for the DS.

X and Y will launch on Oct. 12 for the handheld 3DS and is one of the most highly anticipated Pokemon games in years.
