'Pretty Little Liars' Season 7B Spoilers: A.D. Has 'Relatable' Backstory, Says Showrunner

There are only 10 episodes left in the seventh and final season of "Pretty Little Liars." So what is in store for the five girls when the second half of the installment returns?

First of all, fans can expect the true identity of A.D. to be revealed. There are certainly a lot of theories out there on who is behind all of this, but it remains to be seen if any of them are true. Showrunner I. Marlene King, though, has explained that the big reveal will be quite despairing to some.

Asked by a fan on Twitter, King replied that the revelation will be sad news mainly "because every villain has a real human story." She went on to explain that A.D., once revealed, will be very relatable, which is why there is an empathy factor that will come into play. All of the villains on "Pretty Little Liars" have had their own personal reasons for going after the five girls. And fans are undoubtedly excited to find out why A.D. is doing all of this.

A promo video has already been released for the midseason premiere episode, titled "Playtime." It starts out with Spencer (Troian Bellisario) letting Aria (Lucy Hale) come inside a house.

"What couldn't you tell me over the phone?" Aria asks. "It's easier if I show you," Spencer replies.

As Aria enters, she sees the other three girls already gathered there as they stand around a huge black box with a red bow on it. It is clear from the vibe that this is no ordinary gift. Aria opens the tag, which reads "It's playtime!" and is signed by A.D. Aria goes into denial. Spencer explains that the black box was already there when she got back.

"Guys, Noel is dead," Aria points out. "Jenna is wandering around in the dark. This can't be real." Alison (Sasha Pieterse) says there is someone else out there terrorizing them.

"Out there and just as crazy," Hanna (Ashley Benson) says. The girls all open the box, but the clip cuts to black before anything else is revealed.

"Pretty Little Liars" season 7 returns on Tuesday, April 18, at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
