An army of pro-life evangelists on Facebook has helped push a 33-minute anti-abortion video to one million views, said the social media manager for Living Waters, the ministry that produced the film.
The dramatic film “180,” which was released less than a month ago, catches the responses of young adults to a series of questions by evangelist Ray Comfort in which he begins by asking whether they know who Adolf Hitler is and the fact that he sanctioned the killing of 11 million people.
While interviewing those with a pro-abortion stance, Comfort transitions from talk about lives lost in the Holocaust to lives lost as the result of abortions in the United States. Comfort recently said he was sickened by the answers so many young people gave to a hypothetical question he asked them after describing a life and death, Holocaust-like scenario.
The “180 Movie” Facebook page has become a focal point for social media users to place posts that include the transformational stories about people changing their minds to a pro-life stance. Additionally, those that have decided to share the link to the video come to the site to get insights on how to better share the film and its message. There are currently more than 22,000 Facebook users who "Like" the page.
“We have about 1,000 people that are very passionate about promoting ‘180’ on Facebook,” said Social Media Reach owner Shane Martin, who has donated his services to the Living Waters cause. “This core group of people is each sharing more than two or three times a day on their Facebook page, which in many cases can cause irritation for some people.”
“However, they have counted the cost and if their [Facebook] friends are not impressed with them posting and re-posting on a daily basis they don’t really care. The Facebook effort has been clearly off the hook. Half the people who have viewed the movie probably would not have watched it without the Facebook push,” he said.
Comfort told The Christian Post that hitting the million-view mark is encouraging because the film ties into the message of the Gospel as well. He is also encouraged by the social media evangelists that have taken part in promoting “180.”
“I am more than delighted that so many see that they can make a difference when it comes to the horror of abortion,” Comfort said. “No doubt many good Germans gave their lives simply by asking what was going on behind the walls of concentration camps or by protesting when it came to cruelty to Jews.”
“We need not pay such a great price, because ‘180’ can speak up for us. All we need do for that to happen is for us to put our fingers to a keyboard see minds and lives changed, or to put it another way, we can use a mouse to move a mountain,” he said.
“We want every Christian who has access to a computer to realize that they literally have the world at their fingertips, and by promoting 180Movie.com they can not only see hearts changed about the horror of abortion, but people can hear the words of everlasting life through the Gospel [by going to TheWayoftheMaster.com].”
For Martin, joining the pro-life cause and helping with social media was a “no brainer,” he said.
“My wife and I were already involved in evangelism. We give away Gospel tracts wherever we go. We just fell in love with the ministry of Living Waters,” Martin said. “For me, I love social media and evangelism.”
