'Prometheus 2' News: Film to Premiere in 2016, Movie to Be a Prequel

The "Prometheus 2" release date has been pushed back a year due to Ridley Scott's commitments. The 76-year-old film maker has a whole slew of projects before him, which includes the Biblical epic "Exodus: Gods and Kings," which will be out on Boxing Day this year. He is also slated to direct the sci-fi film "The Martian," starring Matt Damon and the sequel to 'Blade Runner," which will star Harrison Ford.

Fans are wondering what will happen in the next installment of "Prometheus," with archeologist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and damaged, but still functioning android David (Michael Fassbender) as they were last seen heading to the home world of humanity's architects turned future destroyers, the Engineers.

According to Moviepilot, one of the near-confirmed details of the movie will see Fassbender return and playing more than one "David 8" robot. There are also rumors that the movie will be a prequel to the first movie, making it a prequel to a prequel, because the events that took place in "Prometheus" gave way to what happened in the "Alien" movies.

The website reports that another sign that the movie could be heading back in time is due to a trailer that sees a young Peter Wayland, giving a TED Talk for the year 2023. In the video, he talks about a glorious day in human progress, and explains the myth of Prometheus stealing fire from the gods, as he says that Mankind, with the new technological advances and abilities, are the new gods.

"Prometheus 2" is slated to arrive in theaters on March 4, 2016.
