PS4 vs Xbox One: Microsoft Console Could Overtake Sony's if Kinect was Unbundled from System

A new report suggests the Xbox One could outsell the PlayStation 4 if it got rid of the mandatory bundle of the Kinect.

"The presumed unbundling of Kinect and Xbox One, which should facilitate rough price parity between it and the PS4, should lead to a spike in Xbox One sales," International Data Corporation said in a report. "Assuming the console and sensor are unbundled in 2015, IDC expects Xbox One to recover and emerge with the largest installed base of any console in North America by the end of 2016."

Also in their report, they projected the PS4 will sell over 51 million units across the globe by 2016. IDC also suggested that despite the strong numbers by Sony, Microsoft would probably lead in North America if the Kinect was taken off.

The PlayStation 4 has already sold over 7 million units in six months, while the Xbox One has confirmed over 3 million in the same time period, but the actual number may be higher. Wii U has taken two years to sell only 6.17 million consoles.

IDC said the Wii U is likely to get a $50 price cut by the end of the year or in early 2015.

In other news, Microsoft sales have been helped due to the release of the Titanfall Xbox One bundle.

"I was surprised that the PS4 outsold the Xbox One in March, a month where Titanfall led overall software sales. I thought such a strong and highly marketed game, coupled with price cuts on the Titanfall Xbox One bundle from many retailers to $450, would net Microsoft a victory. But that didn't happen. Still, it is far too early to say Microsoft is in trouble," said Eddie Makuch in a GamePro magazine report.

He added, "The PS4 may be off to a red-hot start, but we are only six months into a console cycle that will probably last for the next decade."

Within that reported, it was revealed the console's sales have gone up 60 percent over the Xbox 360 in that same span when it came out.
