Rachel McAdams Split Caused by 'Differences'

Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have ended their relationship over opposing desires for the future, new reports indicate.

The "Notebook" star and Sheen, also an actor, had been dating for two years ahead of their split this week. The 34-year-old starlet is reportedly keen on starting a family, while Sheen, who already has one daughter with Kate Beckinsale, has no interest in having more children.

"Rachel wants to settle down and is dreaming of having a family," a source close to the actress told People magazine.

"Michael always seemed content with their relationship. Since he already has a daughter (Lily, age 14) he feels no need to have more children," the insider added of the 45-year-old actor. "He wants to focus on his career."

McAdams and Sheen met on the set of Woody Allen's 2010 comedy "Midnight in Paris." As for the former couple, they will remain friendly despite their romance having burned out.

"They still have some contact and are friendly," said the source at People. "They tried to work things out, but at the end they just couldn't agree. It caused some frustration and they thought it was better to go separate ways."

In the past, McAdams has been linked to fellow Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who described the actress as "one of the great loves of my life," according to People magazine. He is currently dating Eva Mendes.

Later this year, McAdams will appear in the dramatic comedy "About Time" as well as "A Most Wanted Man."

Meanwhile, McAdams and Sheen are not the only Hollywood couple calling it quits this week. Michelle Williams and Jason Segel also recently split up after dating for a year.

"She cares a great deal for Jason but is not ready to make a commitment," a source told People magazine.

Williams, 32, lives in New York City with her daughter, Matilda, whose father is the late actor Heath Ledger.
