Randi Zuckerberg Leaves Facebook For Her Own Company

Sister to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Randi Zuckerberg has resigned from her Marketing Director position at Facebook to start her own company.

After six years at Facebook, Randi has said she wants to create a new media firm to help companies become more social.

In a resignation letter published Thursday at All Things D, Randi said, “I have spent my years at Facebook pouring my heart and soul into innovating and pushing the media industry forward by introducing new concepts around live, social, participatory viewing that the media has since adopted. We made incredible progress, but there is still much to be done and other ways I can affect change.”

Facebook confirmed her exit with a statement, “We can confirm Randi has decided to leave Facebook to start her own company. We are all grateful for her important service.”

Mark Zuckerberg has not directly commented.

The 29-year-old is well known for her charismatic personality and has been a high-profile member of the Facebook staff since the company’s beginning.

Big sister to the co-creator of the most used social networking service, Randi jumped into the spotlight recently with “Facebook Live,” the Emmy-nominated news show she created and hosted. She also just had a baby, and made the decision to leave Facebook directly after her three-month maternity leave.

Randi’s new media firm will be called “RtoZ” presumed to denote her initials.

“Now is the perfect time for me to move outside of Facebook to build a company focused on the exciting trends underway in the media industry,” her resignation letter continued.

Randi concluded the letter with reflections of her time spent at Facebook and with pride and warm gratitude, “As I end this chapter of my career, know that I leave with a deep love for Facebook and I value the experiences I have had here immensely. Be assured I will continue to be a strong, vocal evangelist for the most incredible social platform ever created.”
