Randy Couture News: 'The Natural' Says Holm-Rousey Similar To When He Fought Boxer James Toney In MMA

One of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's two-division world champions Randy Couture recently spoke up about UFC 193's main event bout between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm.

It has been more than a month since Holm knocked Rousey out with a single head kick in the second round of their fight at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. A huge chunk of mixed martial arts fans and pundits alike have attributed Holm's victory to her apparent striking edge over Rousey.

"The Preacher's Daughter" holds a notable professional boxing stint, and also fought in amateur kickboxing bouts. Couture has been retired from professional prizefighting since 2011.

Throughout his 14-year career, "The Natural" has faced the who's who of the combat sports world, including three-division world boxing champion James Toney. "Captain America" fought "Lights Out" Toney in 2010, where he evidently emerged victorious via first round submission.

It was a match-up that many believed was a grave mismatch since Toney's MMA experience was very little. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, the 52-year-old Couture compared his fight with Toney to what transpired at UFC 193 between Rousey and Holm.

Couture noted that Rousey tried to outstrike Holm, who was also an 18-time world champion boxer.

"It would have been a bad idea for me to do it with James Toney, it was a bad idea for her to do it with Holly Holm," Couture said. Couture, however, also added that it should not be the end of the world for Rousey, as he believes "Rowdy" can still bounce back from her first career loss.

He also noted that Rousey should concentrate on using a fight strategy wherein her strengths would be fully utilized.

"Change her approach to closing the distance and getting your hands on Holly," he said. "Make Holly operate where [Rousey] is strongest."

"How many judo medalists do we have in this sport? Time and time again that's where she's won her fights," he added.
