Resolution on Public Schools Resurface

Mission America (MA), a ministry that identifies and confronts the latest cultural and social trends with Christian perspectives, is urging the public to support a resolution regarding homosexuality in public schools that will be proposed to the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).

The resolution, which addresses the issue on pro-homosexual materials in public school curricula and encourages parents to consider alternatives to public education, cannot be voted on by the SBC unless its Resolutions Committee brings it to the floor, according to Mission America.

Therefore, the organization is asking the parents, grandparents, supporters and others - whether Baptists or not - to write letters to the members of the SBC Resolutions Committee, urging them to send the resolution to the floor for approval at the SBC’s annual meeting next month.

The resolution is co-submitted by Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr., a prominent Southern Baptist lecturer, preacher, and author of The Ever-Loving Truth and Bruce N. Shortt, a Texas attorney and co-sponsor of the 2004 Christian Education Resolution and author of The Harsh Truth About Public Schools.

Furthermore, as stated by Exodus Mandate, Baucham-Shortt resolution also: (a) commends Christians working in government schools, (b) asks Baptists to make a greater effort to provide and support Christian educational alternatives to government schools, especially for the benefit of children from low income and single parent families, (c) calls upon Baptists to pray for homosexuals, and (d) rebukes homosexual advocates for slandering minorities by claiming that homosexual behavior has any authentic connection with the civil rights movement.
