Rihanna Reacts to Katy Perry Diss? Singer 'Doesn't Need to be Saved'

Rihanna fans were furious on Wednesday over an interview in which her former best friend, Katy Perry, appeared to suggest that the Bajan singer needs saving from the dark side of the showbiz industry.

Social networking sites Facebook and Twitter erupted with heated debates about Perry and Rihanna's seemingly strained friendship after the "Hot N Cold" singer's interview with Elle U.K. Went viral. Perry, 28, and Rihanna, 25, reportedly ended their longtime friendship in 2012 over the Bajan singer's relationship with Chris Brown and while they eventually began speaking again, things have reportedly not been the same.

"I love her [Rihanna] and every time I see her, I'm reminded of the light that she has. There's a lot of dark in this business," Perry told Elle before elaborating, without naming anyone specific.

"I know a lot of people out there with the most detrimental entourages — they are the root of their demise. It's really unfortunate but you can't save these people. My days of celebrity saving are over," she explained.

While fans were quick to criticize Perry's interview, critics have pointed out that the pop star did not actually specify who exactly she believes has "detrimental entourages."

A source close to Rihanna reportedly responded to Perry's interview by reiterating that the "Diamonds" singer is not affected by the "dark side" of showbiz because she has faith in God.

"Rihanna doesn't need to be saved by anyone. The man upstairs is to whom she owes everything. That's who brought her here and that's who she's leaving with!" a source close to the singer told HollywoodLife.com.

"Everybody has an opinion about something. Ri's grown and will walk through fire by herself if it means it will make her stronger. Rihanna knows how to cut ties and cut them so sharp that your teeth bleed! She knows how to get rid of toxic people in her life," the source said. "She's not a baby and has everything she could ever want or need in life. She's happy and thankful."

In November, it was claimed that Perry had ended her friendship with Rihanna because she did not approve of Brown. Rihanna reconciled with Brown in 2012 three years after he was convicted of assaulting her.

"They aren't tight anymore because Katy doesn't approve of Rihanna dating Chris Brown," a source previously said.

In May Rihanna and Brown, 24, ended their relationship and subsequently the singer rekindled her friendship with Perry. They were reportedly spotted hanging out at Rihanna's May 7 concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"They hung out like old times and were catching up," one onlooker previously told Us magazine about Rihanna and Perry's reunion.
