Robin-John Gibb, the son of Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb, has spoken out about his father waking from a week-long coma as well as his condition.

Doctors as well as the Gibb family were astounded when the 62-year-old awoke on Sunday. Robin-John spoke to ITV News Monday expressing pride in his father's survival.

"The [doctors] gave him an under 10 percent survival chance and he has beaten the odds … He really is something else," said Gibb.

Last week, reports indicated that the former Bee Gees member was in grave condition.

"Sadly the reports are true that Robin Gibb has contracted pneumonia and is in a coma," said a statement on the singer's official website. "We are all hoping and praying that he will pull through."

However, "How Deep is Your Love" singer's doctor released a statement Sunday, saying Gibb was "exhausted, extremely weak and malnourished," but that that he was fully conscious and able to speak after waking from the coma.

"It is a testament to Robin's extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has now overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now," said Dr. Thillainayagam, according to the Associated Press.

Gibb's pneumonia was a result of being weakened by cancer treatments. Dr. Thillainayagam added that Gibb is still in intensive care being treated for advanced colorectal cancer.

The singer has battled illnesses over the past year that required him to undergo intestinal surgery and several hospitalizations.

In 2003, Maurice Gibb, Robin's twin brother and fellow Bee Gees singer, died at age 53 of a twisted colon. The condition was caused by a congenital birth defect that Robin also shares. While the intestinal issue is not directly related to his previous colon cancer, Gibb's health is still in danger.
