Robot Lawyer Helps Overturn 160,000 Parking Tickets (and Counting) for Free

Saves Motorists Thousands of Dollars in Parking Ticket Fines

Stanford University student, Joshua Browder came up with a website that can help motorists issued with parking tickets have them invalidated. And people have been calling this as the "Robot Lawyer".

The robot lawyer is not a physical robot but a website that will help the driver issued with a parking ticket see if he can have the violation overturned.

Browder's story began when he learned how to drive. He then began getting parking tickets. It was then that he decided to create the website when his parents told him that he has to find ways to settle the parking ticket violations he has been racking up.

How to Use Robot Lawyer

Parking ticket violators need to go to his website to sign up for the free service. Once logged in, the user will be asked a series of simple questions – these are standard stock questions that will give the program a better understanding of the situation. Based on the answers, the "Robot lawyer" will determine if there is a chance for an appeal or cancellation of the violation and will generate the necessary appeal if applicable.

The 19 year old Browder introduced his "Robot lawyer" to his family and friends in London who had accumulated 30 parking tickets issued among themselves. It took him about three weeks to create the website.

It has since saved Londoners 160,000 parking tickets and counting.

Because of the success, Browder has made his project available throughout the United Kingdom and has introduced it in New York as well.

Not for sale

Reports say that Mark Cuban, a billionaire tech investor, has expressed his interested in the Do Not Pay project but Browder was quick to say that his project is not for sale. For now, he doesn't intend to charge users for the service and there is also no advertising in the horizon. For him, helping others is payment enough – especially for those who cannot afford to have an extra financial burden like paying for a ticket.

Robot lawyer's success rate is relative high. Of the 250,000 tickets that it has disputed, 160,000 cases were over turned.

Browder is now thinking of ways of widening the scope of which his robot lawyer can help. His project has made him realize that there is a bigger world that needs help other than just parking tickets.
