'Rock Band 4' Release Date News: Game Details Ahead of 2015 Launch

Rumors surrounding "Rock Band 4" have just been confirmed. Harmonix is releasing the fourth series of the music video game for PS4 and Xbox One within the year.

Electronic Arts and MTV Games will be releasing Harmonix fourth outing of the popular music video game, "Rock Band" for Xbox One and PS4 within 2015. Alex Rigopulos, Chief Creative Officer for Harmonix said the launch of the fourth version was made in answer to fans' growing requests for a new "Rock Band."

With a next level on-disc soundtrack, the new game supports the vast amount of tracks Harmonix has released since the game was first launched in 2007.

According to IGN, songs purchased for past "Rock Band" iterations will automatically be transferred to next generation consoles, except for Xbox One, which will only be able to accept Xbox 360 DLC imports, and PS4, which will only accept PS3 downloadable content. However, players will not have to pay any import fees to carry their previous DLCs over to "Rock Band 4."

With the new game soon to be released on online shelves, Harmonix has informed fans they will be rolling out new hardware, as well. Fans can opt to be notified the minute "Rock Band 4" pre-orders go live when they sign up to the pre-order mailing list on the "Rock Band" site.

Fans should also expect new instruments courtesy of Mad Catz. The gaming accessories manufacturer has revealed a new line of music game controls: a Band in a Box bundle with a new Wireless Fender, guitar controller, Stratocaster, a microphone, and a wireless drum kit.

Harmonix has announced it will be offering a PAX East Wireless Stratocaster Guitar Controller with custom artwork done by Penny Arcade web-comic artist, "Gabe" for pre-orders at the on-site Harmonix booth.

More news on the new game and its impending release is scheduled to be revealed at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) trade show at the Los Angeles Convention Center in June.
