Samsung Foldable Phones Release Date News: Galaxy X1, X1 Plus to Appear at MWC 2017?

Recently, Samsung is rumored to be holding an event at the Mobile World Congress this month where their long-time speculated foldable phones, dubbed as the Galaxy X1 and X1 Plus, are to be unveiled.

However, according to recent reports, the event for the foldable smartphones is referred to as a "private demo" where access will be given only to a group of selected industry partners, distributors, retailers, and journalists.

That being said, it is suggested that Samsung is still in the phase of seeking feedback on what they have in the pipeline and may possibly be looking forward to further improve it.

Samsung has been repeatedly reported to be working on several foldable smartphone models since the South Korea-based electronics firm submitted several patents that sparked such rumors.

In December 2013, Samsung filed a patent for "Foldable display apparatus and method of manufacturing the same." It did not go unnoticed by many technology enthusiasts when it was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in January 2015.

And last Jan. 31, Samsung filed yet another patent for "Electronic device including flexible display" that clearly has something to do with future foldable smartphones. According to the most recent patent's abstract, Samsung is planning to create a device that has a flexible screen placed in two housing cases that will be connected by a hinge module.

Last month, it can be recalled that The Korea Herald also reported about Samsung's possible move that involves foldable mobile devices. According to their industry sources, "Samsung is expected to roll out more than 100,000 units of fold-out devices in the third quarter."

According to BGR's report, a previous leak hinted that the Galaxy X1 might come off the box with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, while the Galaxy X1 Plus will be running with the latest Android Nougat.

On the other hand, while the foldable phones are expected to be revealed in private, Samsung will open the gates to the anticipated launch of Galaxy Tab S3 at MWC 2017 on Feb. 26 in Barcelona, Spain.
