The official Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1, JellyBean update will begin rolling out in Jan. 2013.

Users of the device have been eagerly anticipating the release of the software from Samsung who stated that it was good and very stable, but still not ready yet.

It was originally scheduled to begin rolling out in the middle of Nov., however it was delayed without another release date.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1, JellyBean update comes pre-installed on the new "Plus" variant that is being released by Samsung.

The new device, which will take on the name Galaxy S2 Plus, will come running Android 4.1.2. Photos of the device were leaked earlier today.

Specifications on the Galaxy S2 Plus include a 4.3-inch WVGA screen, a rear 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a taste of JellyBean. This same firmware is headed to the other Galaxy S2 models in the near future via KIES and OTA.

This is the second 'Plus" variant that Samsung has released in its Galaxy S line. The company also launched the Galaxy S Plus not too long ago.

The software will bring a New TouchWiz UI to the smartphone along with a redesigned keyboard, improved functionality for NFC connections, Google Now integration, and expandable notifications.

The software actually leaked at the end of last month in the form of a new ROM.

This new firmware appeared for installation in XDA-Dev threads and packs some of the latest features now available to those using the official build of JellyBean.

The official firmware is currently in test mode and its build number is I9100XXLSJ. This new leaked version is said to be pretty close to Samsung's when it finally is released for the Galaxy S2.
