Samsung Galaxy S2 Release Date Arrives on Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile to Follow

The Samsung Galaxy S2, which is the company’s best-selling smartphone, is now finally available in the United States this weekend.

The Android Gingerbread-powered Samsung Epic 4G Touch smartphone has been made available “exclusively” on Sprint Nextel. It is also the first Samsung Galaxy S2 model available in the United States that sports new features not available in the global version of the device

The newly available smartphone will cost $199.99 with a 2-year contract on Sprint.

The new device will include a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, and an LED Notification light.

It is powered by an ARM Cortex A9 1.2-GHz Exynos processor, and can take HD videos 1080p with its 8-megapixel primary camera. The phone also comes with 1GB RAM.

Other major networks such as T-Mobile and AT&T will also release their own slightly modified versions of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The version available from T-Mobile has been touted to contain a 1.5 dual core Qualcomm APQ8060 processor, instead of the original Samsung-branded 1.2GHz Exynos processor.

The version available from AT&T will keep the original 4.3-inch screen, and will be just 8.89mm at its thinnest point

Verizon has been left behind by the other three major U.S. carriers, and will not be making the Samsung Galaxy S2 available on its network. On various web chat forums a number of disgruntled Verizon customers have expressed that they will soon be leaving the network because of this, and are weighing up whether to move to T-Mobile, Sprint or AT&T.
