Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Trumps HTC Vivid in Smartphone Review

AT&T has introduced its first high-end 4G LTE smartphones, debuting to the world the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid last month.

Both of these devices are compatible with AT&T’s 4G LTE network, but differ in specs.

The Christian Post has already reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, and was also able to recently test out the HTC Vivid.

Display:

The HTC Vivid features a 4.5-inch qHD display that dulls in comparison to the Super AMOLED screen included on the Skyrocket. The colors on the display appear to be less vibrant than those on the Samsung device. It also is not as crisp when it comes to showing videos and viewing pictures. Regardless, it is still an impressive display, just not quite as nice as the one featured on the Skyrocket.

Processor and Connectivity:

The HTC Vivid features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and the Skyrocket has a dual-core 1.5GHz processor. Completing tasks is quick and efficient on the Skyrocket. However, things seem to go a bit slower with the HTC Vivid. Downloading apps also seems to go twice as fast on the Skyrocket.

In terms of connectivity, both devices were tested in New York City and the Skyrocket caught the LTE network more frequently in the area. Since the service is new to the Big Apple, it is not common for a smartphone to always connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE networks. The Skyrocket’s antenna seemed to connect better with the new service.

Camera:

The shots taken on the HTC Vivid’s rear 8-megapixel camera proved to be quite impressive showing great detail and coloring. Both the Vivid and the Skyrocket sport some impressive point and shooters, however both devices have not come close to the detail recorded by the iPhone 4S camera.

Body:

One of the most impressive aspects of the HTC Vivid is its sturdy design with it being encased in metal. In comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket it has a classier look and feel. The Skyrocket is encased in plastic that makes for a lighter feel. Whereas, the HTC Vivid is heavier and has a more appealing look.

Battery Life:

The HTC Vivid can last about one and a half days at a full charge when it is used moderately. Its battery life lasts a little bit longer than the Skyrocket’s.

Conclusion:

The HTC Vivid is an impressive smartphone compared to most devices, but does not match the quality or speed of the Skyrocket. Consumers interested in going 4G LTE on AT&T should probably look into the Skyrocket and skip the HTC Vivid.
