Samsung Galaxy S9 Release Date, Specs News: Slow Motion Video And Foldable Technology Could Come This 2018

The dust from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has not yet settled and fans of the Korean mobile giant are already clamoring for new details of next year's flagship model: the Samsung Galaxy S9.

While the world is still ogling the new iPhone or rather iPhones, Samsung is already preparing the next iteration of the Galaxy S series in time for 2018. Details of the upcoming smartphone are already starting to come out now on the strengths of the handset as well as the aspirations of its maker.

One area that the smartphone could become a pioneer of is the field of slow-motion video recording. According to Forbes, a whopping 1000 frames per second seems to be a possible goal for the new handset with the sensor consisting of a three-layer design with logic processing and fast memory built into the chip.

The addition of on-chip memory allows the new sensor to store the video data locally at high speed before being saved by the camera app. However, this means that the maximum duration of the slow-motion video is heavily dependent on the amount of memory built into the sensor which will likely be limited to a span of a few seconds.

Samsung is also expected to carry the development of a fingerprint sensor that can sit on the main display with the Samsung Galaxy S9. Unlike Apple which has switched over to facial recognition thanks in part to the iOS, Samsung has to abide by Android and its requirements for a fingerprint sensor to gain certification.

The location of the scanner has been a huge point of contention. The S8 family and the Note 8 placed it on the rear of the device to provide the maximum amount of display size, however, this hasn't been well-received if the many reviews of the premium smartphone are to be any guide. Putting it back in front will remedy this if Samsung can find a way to incorporate it with the smartphone's giant screen.

Another thing fans might want to watch out is the use of foldable technology. Samsung already patented the technology and a prototype of this unique physical element was revealed at a trade show some years ago. If the company wants to be the first to feature it on its smartphones, incorporating it with the Samsung Galaxy S9 is something that would be worth considering.
