San Francisco 49ers Safety Eric Reid May Miss a Few Weeks With PCL Injury

San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid has been officially ruled out of Thursday's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams due to a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury in his left knee.

In a conference call earlier this week, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Reid will miss their week three game against the Rams, and he added that the fifth-year pro may miss more games this season.

"They kept looking at his knee. They didn't feel that there was anything torn, so (Reid) felt it was alright," Reid said, via the Mercury News.

I haven't gotten to talk to him personally yet, so I'm not exactly sure. But, when he checked out, it seemed alright. The X-ray they had looked good, and he said he could go so he kept trying to go and then he had his final straw and said he couldn't go anymore. I guess that's what happened," he continued.

Reid injured his knee in the second quarter of their game against the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday. He did return to the field in the third quarter, but he had to be taken out of the game twice.

The good news is that Reid's knee injury will not require surgery, but the 49ers will have to make some adjustments before they take on the Rams because safeties Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are listed as questionable for the game.

Ward has been dealing with a hamstring injury since July and he was a limited participant in practice this week. However, he did play at free safety against the Seahawks, so there's a chance he will be available this week.

Tartt was a limited participant in practice as well as he continues to deal with a neck injury. But he has hinted that he's ready to suit up for the 49ers.

Rookies Lorenzo Jerome and Adrian Colbert should get plenty of playing time if either of them is unavailable.
