'Scandal' Season 5B Spoilers: What's Next after the Olivia-Fitz Split?

In the finale of "Scandal" season 5, hearts were broken, harsh words were spoken, and while fans lingered on the hopes that the White House's most estranged couple would find a way through their love, a much more intense and tear-filled part two may be on the way.

The midseason finale not only left many speechless but more people fuming over Olivia's (Kerry Washington) decision to have an abortion, and without Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) knowledge.

Fans thought what they've been asking for was the best for everyone in the White House — not really. Olivia and her fanbase thought they were all getting used to the royalty, but as time passed, the not-so-first-lady realized that she wasn't really accepted in the big family.

With Olivia leaving Fitz to face his troubles in the White House alone, it could mean that part two of the heart-wrenching season requires much more Kleenex than the previous episodes demanded.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Goldwyn revealed how he truly felt about the finale and what he thinks might happen to his character and that of Washington's in part two of season 5.

Goldwyn admitted that the entire cast was "shocked" when they received the script. "That abortion blew my mind. It was not what I expected with Olivia and Fitz," he said. On the other hand, he said he was "impressed" with how Shonda Rhimes arrived to such a bold decision that might reduce the number of people supporting the hit series.

The actor noted that what made the abortion plot much more interesting is that Fitz had no knowledge whatsoever about Olivia's plan, hinting that an exploding episode is brewing somewhere in part two of the season when Fitz discovers that his child wasn't given the chance to live.

When asked how his character will react to discovering the abortion, Goldwyn said that it is "the most gutting news he could get" adding that he doesn't know how Fitz would "recover" after he finds out. He teased, though, that "there's hope" for their love to be ignited once more in the upcoming episodes.

"Scandal" resumes on Feb. 11, 2016.
