Seattle Seahawks Injury News: Marshawn Lynch to Visit a Specialist, Surgery an Option

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is expected to be out for the rest of the season after reports surfaced that he has sports hernia, a condition that requires surgery.

Head coach Pete Carroll revealed to reporters on Sunday that Lynch will be traveling to Philadelphia to consult with a specialist regarding his condition.

"We're going to try to take care of him, he's going to make a trip to go see a specialist out in Philadelphia to see if we can figure out what's going on. It's an abdominal issue, there's a lot going on there, so we've got to see what that all means," Carroll told reporters.

Although Lynch was listed as "probable" heading into Sunday's game against the 49ers, he eventually wasn't able to play due to what team officials called as "abdominal injury."

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network later revealed that Lynch was to meet with Dr. William Meyers in Philly, and with that in mind, there is more certainty that the running back is indeed suffering from sports hernia.

Although many surgeries like it result to ending seasons and facing long layoffs, the Seahawks are hoping that Lynch will have enough time to heal and be ready for the playoffs; something that is really doubtful at this point.

Fortunately for the Seahawks, the emergence of Thomas Rawls means that they won't be missing that much in case Lynch is deemed out for the season. On Sunday, the substitute produced the second most rushing yards in Seahawks' history. Fans will therefore get to see more of the rookie Rawls in more superb ground games in the next couple of weeks.

It's no secret that Lynch plays a crucial role for this team, but with Rawls performing well and beyond what's expected of him, the team should be in good hands.
