Serena Williams Baby Girl's Name Revealed on Instagram

Serena Williams welcomed her first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., into the world on Wednesday, Sept. 1, weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces.

The Women's Tennis Association's top player shared a photo of her cradling her newborn daughter on Instagram. In her caption, she revealed the baby's name.

According to Pamela Redmond Satran, co-founder of baby naming website Nameberry, Alexis is the 119th most popular name for girls and 350th popular choice for boys. Apart from that, Williams made a unique choice by naming her daughter after her father, which is said to be rare these days.

In addition, her baby girl's name come with a Jr. suffix. Typically, the suffix is only used if the baby carries the exact same name as the Sr. In this case, says Satran, it should have been "the second." William's father has Kerry for his middle name while her daughter has Olympia, a name which exudes femininity Satran shared.

Also in her IG photo, she urged her followers to check out a link in her bio as well as her IG stories for her journey to motherhood.

The link led to two-minute clip on Youtube, titled "Hello, world." The video showed Williams at different stages of her pregnancy. Fans can also catch a glimpse of her fiancé Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in the clip.

"It's been a long time," Williams said in one of her Instagram stories. "We had a lot of complications but look what we got, we got a baby girl."

The professional tennis player kept her pregnancy a secret up until last April when she posted a photo of her and her growing baby bump to reveal the news.

Fans of the athlete were even surprised to learn that she was already pregnant when she won the Australian open last January.

Williams is expected to return to the court in 2018.
