Shailene Woodley Cries While Cutting Hair, Donates it to Charity (VIDEO)

Shailene Woodley went to great lengths for her role in the upcoming film "The Fault In Our Stars" this week.

The 22-year-old actress could not hold back tears as she chopped several inches from her hair in order to portray a cancer patient in the new film in a video recently posted online. The clip, which was initially taped last August, features Woodley laughing through her tears as a hairstylist chops through her thick ponytail.

"I have to see it, I have to see it," the actress chokes as the stylist revealed the chopped hair. "I might cry so hard you guys."

Woodley then shied away from the camera, concealing tears.

"I'm so afraid to look," the actress added.

Nevertheless, after all four ponytails were cut, Woodley regained her sense of humor and donated the hair to Children With Hair Loss. The starlet also admitted that she was irrationally attached to her long locks in a blog post ahead of the chop.

"I finally came to the conclusion that hair, for me, was a symbol of strength ... For the longest time, I was committed to never chopping it off," she wrote. "Cut to: Now, on Saturday, it will be the shortest it's ever been. and I feel so relieved, so ready, so dedicated."

After the haircut, Woodley had a whole new outlook on short hair.

"I love it. It's so easy, man," she told People.com. "Not having hair, the lack of hair, even the weight on your head, reveals so much about your body's chemistry. I cannot even tell you."

Woodley is not the only actress to hack length from her hair recently. Pamela Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Aniston and "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence also chopped length from their hair in the past few months. Aniston explained that her decision to cut six inches from her hair happened unexpectedly.

"It was kind of spur-of-the-moment," she explained to Vogue. "I was flipping through the television channels and I paused it to take a picture and I sent it to Chris [McMillan, her hairstylist] and he said, 'That's [stylist] Lawren Howell from Vogue! And then he said, 'I just cut that!' So that's it."
