Superstar Shakira was attacked by a sea lion she was trying to photograph while on vacation in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Colombian-born singer updated her Facebooks status Wednesday, revealing that the sea lion attacked her when she leaned down to photograph and pet the lounging sea lions.

"I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them, doing a baby talk while taking pictures," she wrote on the social networking site about the incident, which occurred Sunday.

"Omg what just happened to me! I was attacked by a sea lion! Lo que me ha sucedido hoy! Un leon marino ha intentado atacarme. Shak," she wrote.

Shakira said the sea lion, who jumped right up out of the water, must have confused the blackberry she was photographing them with for something else entirely.

"Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralysed (sic) by fear and couldn't move," she revealed.

The singer, whose "Waka Waka" song was the official song of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, said her brother came to her rescue, jumped over her and threw his famous sister away from roaring sea lion.

"I just kept eye contact with it while my brother 'Super Tony' jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast," wrote Shakira.

Fortunately, she escaped the entire ordeal unharmed.

The 34-year-old "Whenever, Wherever," singer also said on Twitter that it was not the only time she had a clash with an animal on her trip. She also said the day after her run-in with the sea lion, a baboon had literally jumped into her car.

"Now I'm off to see some penguins! I hope they are a bit more friendly," she wrote.
