'Shark Week' 2015 Edition: Program Schedules Revealed: This Year Will Be 'Literally 18 Hours of Pure Shark Science'

Discovery Channel's popular science programming "Shark Week" kicked Sunday, July 5, marking the 28th annual event featuring the predatory creature of the waters.

This year's edition, however, is promised to be "literally 18 hours of pure shark science" and that there will be no more "Megalodon," Voodoo shark, or Russian Yetis.

This is what the network's new president Rich Ross has told the reporters earlier this year.

"They've done very well, many of them, but it's not something that's right for us," said Ross. "If something [has been previously ordered], it's probably still coming. But I'm telling you where I am and how I feel moving forward."

Discovery spokesperson Laurie Goldberg also revealed the show's new partners including the Sea Save Foundation which intends to raise "awareness about the beauty of marine ecosystems and their fundamental importance to human survival."

Continuing their support of the TV program are Oceana and Ghost Fishing.

"Much of the 2015 lineup looks like it will be better than the past few years," shark biologist David Shiffman said. "Some of the trash that aired the last few years shows that people will watch anything if it has the word 'shark' in the title. So why not make something good?"
