Sherlock's showrunner Mark Gatiss already collaborated with Dhawan in 2013 for BBC Two's Doctor Who origins drama An Adventure in Time and Space. Later on, Gatiss and Dhawan were reunited for BBC's standalone horror The Tractate Middoth.

Dhawan is well known for his roles in Mr. Selfridge, In The Club and Line of Duty. This time he will be joining, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, alongside Amanda Abbington, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, Jonathan Aris and Louise Brealey. All have been the cast for the previous Sherlock series.

Toby Jones, who plays the mysterious villain, has just joined the cast recently and will reportedly be appearing in season 4, episode 2. Thus, both Dhawan and Jones are new in the star-studded series.

What Can We Expect?

There is not much revelation yet on the latest season of Sherlock, but Gatiss and Moffat already issued their press release on the new series "Sherlock [Season] four—here we go again!" they said. "Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street—and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake."

Rachel Talalay will be directing the first of the three episodes. She has been a professor in film and television for more than 25 years. She also directed Doctor Who, The Flash and The Wind in the Willows.

There is no particular date yet as to when Sherlock season 4 will be aired but it is reported that the series will come out in 2017. Sherlock is inspired from the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, produced by Sue Vertue with executive producers Beryl Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat for Hartswood Films, Bethan Jones for BBC Cymru Wales and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece. The series is internationally distributed by BBC Worldwide.
