A notable Indian actress has made headlines and also created controversy by stating that she is to become the first Indian to pose for Playboy.

Sherlyn Chopra, a Bollywood actress hailing from in Mumbai, recently explained that after she wrote the magazine to see if they would be interested in her posing for the magazine, they responded positively to the idea.

While playboy has long been available in western countries, it is currently banned in a host of countries including India and is being confronted and condemned by religious leaders across faiths that see the action in direct conflict with the values of the country.

It is not clear what gave Chopra the idea to pose for playboy but she has had a diverse background being a part of an interfaith family.

Chopra's mother grew up Muslim; while her father was raised a Christian and some close to the situation speculate that it has something to do with her trying to go against the religious establishment in the country.

Since the news broke over the proposed idea many critics have been vocal in their disapproval of the plan.

"One wonders if Sherlyn Chopra's pictures wound a woman's integrity," a local critic lamented.

But the Bollywood actress is not taking the criticism lying down.

"I have become the first Indian to pose naked for Playboy and nobody can take away that achievement from me. I was worried only about my sister and mother ... what they would say. I think one should not think too much about others, whether industry will give me work or not or people will respect me or not."

The Bollywood actress posted a few pictures on Twitter while she was touring the Playboy Mansion with Hugh Hefner. Chopra has starred in several Bollywood films with small roles. Yet she is described as a "legend" in the magazine, which hits newsstands in November.
