Shia LaBeouf will bid goodbye to the lead role of Sam Witwicky after "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." This third installment of the Michael Bay-directed franchise will be his last, LaBeouf said.

"I'm done," LaBeouf said recently in an interview with The Associated Press. "I'm sure they'll make more of them, it's still a very hot franchise, there's still value in it. I think people will still go to see it. I just don't know if I have anything to contribute."

The 26-year-old actor said he loved everything about the Transformers film franchise: making the movies, the crew, director Michael Bay, the cast, Sam's character.

Then why won't LaBeouf be returning after Transformers 3 to again battle the Decepticons?

"I don't have anything new to contribute and I don't think there's anywhere to take Sam really," LaBeouf told AP.

"Nobody really cares about Sam anymore. He has no purpose. He saved the world twice and has sort of been thrown to the side. This is a dude who used to validate himself on his involvement with these robots, (but) these robots no longer need him."

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" debuted to fireworks in the worldwide box office July 4 weekend, grossing a massive $210 million for the No. 1 opening spot at 9,075 overseas locations in 58 territories.

The international debut is ranked second this year behind "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which soared over the $1 billion worldwide mark on Saturday.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Transformers 3 is estimated to earn $160-$175 million in domestic markets and a total of $350 million worldwide by the end of Monday, according to box-office forecasts.
