The so-called shirtless FBI agent in the Petraeus scandal has been named as Fredrick W. Humphries. The revelation was made late on Wednesday, and it has been reported that like the former CIA director, he also had an army background.

Forty-seven year old Humphries is alleged to have sent Jill Kelley, the socialite who reportedly received emails from Petraeus' mistress, a controversial shirtless email. That email was also reportedly sent to his boss and other friends as a joke.

According to reports, Humphries is married to a teacher.

The controversial shirtless photo shows the man, allegedly Humphries, as a bald, muscular man without his shirt on. He is seen standing between two bullet-filled, headless dummies on a shooting range. The email asks, "Which one is Fred?"

Humphries is said to have served in the Army as an intelligence officer before joining the FBI in 1996. According to reports he was assigned the case involving the foiled plan to set off a bomb at the Los Angeles International Airport in 1999.

Humphries is said to have phoned Washington House Rep. Dave Reichert about concerns he was having that national security may have been breached due to emails to Kelley.

The shirtless FBI agent was central to the investigations in 1999's LA airport investigation surrounding the "Millennium Bomber" Ahmed Ressam, who was an Al Qaida agent involved in a New Years Eve terrorist plot.

It is said that Humphries is credited with alerting the FBI to Ressam as a suspect. Ressam was claiming to be a French speaker from Quebec. However, Humphries found that Ressam did not speak the language as he was claiming. Those suspicions ultimately led to Ressam's arrest, interrogation and ultimately in bringing to a halt the terrorist plot on American soil.

However, it has been reported that Humphries had promised Ressam fair treatment in return for his cooperation in the investigations. But when the suspect was sent to New York Humphries disagreed with the decision and the way the case was going. He ultimately ended up testifying for the defense about his concerns over the suspect's treatment.

In the current scandal the general counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, Lawrence Berger has claimed that Humphries has "committed no misconduct."

He has claimed that Humphries and his wife were simply socializing friends with Jill Kelley and her husband, and that was the extent of their relationship.
