'Sleepy Hollow' Season 2 Release Date Fox 2014: Plot Spoilers, Casting Rumors Say Sheriff Reyes to be Played by Sakina Jaffrey

"Sleepy Hollow," the "modern-day retelling" of the 1820 short story by Washington Irving (The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow) is renewed to air for another season and will premiere on September.

To be comprised with 18 episodes, Screenrant reported that the second season will see the reunion of the resurrected soldier Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and modern-day cop Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie).

As what have been seen in the first season finale, Ichabod was buried alive by the Horseman of War, which is revealed as his son, Jeremy (John Noble)/ Abbie, the second Witness to the Apocalypse, was pulled into the purgatory. Meanwhile, after having freed from the "place between worlds," Katrina Crane (Katia Winter) was captured by the Horseman of Death who is also known as the Headless (played in the human form by Neil Jackson.)

Furthermore, new updates revealed the coming of new characters in the forthcoming season which will include a certain Sheriff Reyes which is to be played by Sakina Jaffrey and Nick Hawley to be portrayed by 'Hellcats'' Matt Barr.

According to reports, Sheriff Reyes will be replacing Orlando Jones' Captain Frank Irving as the latter is now in jail. In an interview, the 29-year-old Beharie described the character as a "hard-nosed, takes-no-prisoners, get-in-line kind of woman."

On the other hand, Matt Barr's Nick Hawley will act as an arms dealer whose knowledge on mythological weaponry could prove essential for Ichabod and Abbie. Showrunner Len Wiseman said that the two protagonists need to deal with the weapons expert while keeping an eye on him because "they don't trust him."

"Sleepy Hollow" will return with its brand new season on Monday, Sept. 22, 9 p.m. on FOX.
