Smosh Games Executive Producer Describes PewDiePie as 'Untouchable'

The director of the popular YouTube channel Smosh Games has some interesting opinions about PewDiePie.

In an interview with Polygon, the team behind the Smosh Games channel talked about YouTube, how it has become what it is today, and what it will be in the future. However, Dave Raub, the channel's executive producer, brought out the name of PewDiePie and the controversies he had stirred in the last few months.

It should be remembered that back in February, PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, stirred controversy when one of his videos, wherein he used anti-semitic imagery, went viral. With this, PewDiePie was met with extreme scrutiny and backlash not only from the YouTube community but all throughout the online hemisphere. Following this, his YouTube Red series, "Scare PewDiePie," was immediately canceled, and Disney's Maker Studios dropped him from their list of clients.

After a few months, he was thrust into the spotlight once again when he used a racial slur during his live stream while playing "Firewatch." The developers of the game weren't entirely pleased with the YouTube content creator and requested a DMCA takedown for PewDiePie's Let's Play video.

According to Raub, Kjellberg's offensive personality is nothing but a mere facade and that he does things for "shock value."

"We know Felix. We know that he plays a character. We know that he does things for shock value, which is something that he's been doing for years. We don't have much of a comment on the recent things that he's done but he does things for shock value," the executive producer says.

Smosh Games has worked with Kjellberg a number of times, and according to them, unlike PewDiePie, everything they portray on camera is who they are albeit in an exaggerated way. Furthermore, Raub also claimed that PewDiePie is "untouchable" in the world of YouTube.

"I've known Felix for years, we've done stuff with him in early stages of Smosh Games. He is one of those untouchable YouTubers that he's at the top and he's kind of looking for something and things to do. The things that he says and does aren't necessarily things that we agree with, but it's a different type of community," He concludes.

There is without a doubt that Kjellberg is the biggest personality in YouTube today. Being the most subscribed individual in the whole of YouTube, PewDiePie is definitely at the top of his game. With over 57 million subscribers as of today, the 27-year-old Swedish YouTube creator has legions of supporters to back him up. Up to this day, his view counts are still in the millions per video, so it doesn't seem like the YouTuber is affected by the controversies he has stirred up.
