'Son of Hamas' to Make Film About Islam, Prophet Muhammad

The son of a founding leader of Hamas has announced that he will be making a movie about Islam with the intention of showing Muslims the "real nature" of Prophet Muhammad.

Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of the spiritual leader of Hamas, Sheikh Hassan Yousef, announced his project in Jerusalem at a press conference on Tuesday.

"I think this is the time to expose the real nature of Islam," said Yousef to reporters gathered. "Islam is a religion of war and most Muslims don't understand the true nature of Islam. This is the time and I would like to announce it today here from Jerusalem, next to the Temple Mount."

Based on his family pedigree, Mosab Hassan Yousef was expected to eventually become a leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement, known more commonly by its Arabic acronym Hamas. However, during the 1990s he became an Israeli double-agent, providing information to Israeli authorities on terrorist plots being hatched by Hamas. He also during the course of this time was invited to a Bible study and after some time became Christian.

Yousef documented these events in his autobiography Son of Hamas

Kamal Nawash, founder of the Free Muslims Coalition, told The Christian Post that he felt Yousef's project would not be "significant."

"It is highly unlikely to be significant because he is not speaking as an insider but rather as an outsider…He will be seen as another Christian attacking Islam," said Nawash. "In other words, there is no more weight behind his criticism of Islam than that of a Florida Minister who attacks Islam."

Nawash compared Yousef's film project to a debate Nawash had with Walid Shoebat, a former Palestine Liberation Organization member who converted to Christianity and now is active in terrorism awareness.

"I was given my interpretation of Islam, which was very peaceful and loving and he argued that I was wrong that I don't understand my religion because my religion does not believe in peace," said Nawash.

"Walid, like Yousef, chose to adopt an extreme interpretation of Islam and accuse the majority Muslims who do not adopt the extreme interpretation of being bad Muslims."

Yousef's Jerusalem based press conference was sponsored by Media Central, a pro-Israel organization that specializes in press relations.

According to Yousef, the film on Muhammad already has funding and an actor cast to play the lead. Yousef also plans to make a screen version of "Son of Hamas" with Sam Feuer, a Beverley Hills producer.

"It's not just a movie for Muslims to learn about Islam themselves, what they cherish, but also for people who aren't from Islam to learn the true culture and history of the religion," said Feuer.
